Las Colinas Golf Course

Golf is one of the biggest attractions here on the Costa Blanca.  With 320 days a year of sunshine,  mild winters and some of the best courses in Europe, it is easy to see why.

Having neglected golf for several years due to a very heavy workload, I have rediscovered a love for the game and have spent the last twelve months trying out different courses with a group of friends of similar abilities.  To be honest, we are all high-handicappers at different stages of our golfing journey!

Four of us now play together on the last Saturday of every month and the following is a summary of our exploits!

We always book our rounds through Galaxy Green Fees as they provide the most competitive rates and are always extremely helpful.

Roda Golf – January 2025

A return to one of our favourite courses to start the New Year.  With mainly blue skies we were treated to perfect golfing conditions, 21C and just the lightest of breezes.

Once again we ditched the buggies and walked the course.  It is amazing how much more you appreciate the course when walking.  With great views, challenging holes and superb greens it is fair to say we loved playing here again.

Armed with some new Tour Response balls, courtesy of our friends at Galaxy Golf in Campoamor, scoring was consistently good.

Overall, we gave the course a rating of 9/10 and our performance a 9/10.

Las Ramblas – December 2024

A great way to burn off the excess food and drink over the festive period, we decided to walk the course rather than use buggies.  Las Ramblas is a long course filled with ravines, mountains, lakes, trees and more ravines!

To add an extra challenge, the greenkeeper had changed the pin locations to impossibly difficult positions in honour of the “Dia De Los Inocentes” the Spanish equivalent of April Fools Day.

After a few balls on the range and some putting practice, we headed off for a roller coaster of a round.  Moments of brilliance were soon ruined by moments of despair.  Las Ramblas can be a harsh and unforgiving course if you are wayward off the tee, it is all about accuracy rather than distance which certainly levelled the playing field.

Overall, we gave the course a rating of 7/10 and our performance a 7/10.

Altaona Golf – October 2024

Despite the threat of high winds, torrential rain and possible flooding, we headed off to the Altaona Golf and Country Village in Murcia.

A quick practice on the range and putting green convinced us that we were ready.  The rain started on the second fairway and stayed with us for the remainder of the afternoon getting progressively heavier with each hole.  Luckily we had come semi-prepared and for the Brits among us, it was similar to playing in the UK in winter!

We all played well with the ball holding the greens when fired in.  Scoring was high and we all enjoyed the course.  We will be back, hopefully in better conditions next time.

Overall, we gave the course a rating of 8/10 and our performance a 9/10.

Font Del Llop – September 2024

One of the hidden gems of the Costa Blanca, Font Del Llop is worth the short journey inland towards Monforte Del Cid.  The course was recommended by the helpful staff at Galaxy Golf and it lived up to our expectations.

The course is set in a stunning mountain location with just a few properties currently under construction overlooking the fairways.  The clubhouse is well established and offers a great pro shop and restaurant.

The course was challenging but enjoyable.  My advice is to take plenty of balls!  With the course being built on the side of a mountain, there is a tendancy for balls to roll off the fairways and into lakes, ravines and other hazards!

Practice facilities are a little limited with only a few matts at the driving range and a small putting area, so get your practice before you arrive.

The overall reaction to the course was mixed, I personally enjoyed it and played better than I have for a long time.  The others were not so keen after struggling to get to grips with the course.

Overall, we gave the course a rating of 8/10 and our performance a 7/10.

La Finca Golf – August 2024

Another hot round of golf at our local course!

With temperatures forecast to reach 38C despite the clouds, we were hoping for a quick round but got held up on every hole by a slower group in front.  Although it didn’t help our golf it did give us a chance to admire the scenery, villas and new developments!

The continual improvement in scores that we had been seeing took a bit of a hit as the conditions made scoring difficult.

Despite not playing at our best, we all agreed that the course is one of our favourites and we should take any opportunities that arise to play here again.

A swift beer in the magnificent clubhouse was very gratefully received!

Overall, we gave the course a rating of 9/10 and our performance an 8/10.

Vistabella Golf – July 2024

A nice early start to try and beat the heat.

It was good to return to a course that we had previously enjoyed.  With a little local knowledge we all attacked the course fearlessly and scored well.

It was great to see the foundations and concrete framework for the new clubhouse.  It is going to be spectacular when it is finished and really put this place on the golfing map.

Despite the lack of rain over the last 8 months, the course was in superb condition.

Overall, we gave the course a rating of 9/10 and our performance a 9/10.

Las Colinas Golf – June 2024

We were all very excited to play the multi-award winning Las Colinas Golf Course.  I have seen the course from all angles having viewed and sold many properties here over the years, but it was my first time to play it.

The conditions were perfect as was the course, the hospitality and the driving range.  Little touches just elevated the experience beyond any course we had played so far.

We all played well and enjoyed the course, although I was slightly distracted by the magnificent villas and apartments!

Tommy hit a memorable birdie despite his tee shot landing in a swimming pool, but the less said about that, the better!

Overall, we gave the course a rating of 10/10 and our performance an 8/10.

El Valle Golf – May 2024

Having enjoyed the course on our previous visit, we decided to re-visit as a four.

The heat was intense and the course was in excellent condition.

As always the fairways were elusive and many balls were lost in the ball eating shrubs!  Luckily we all came well stocked after a visit to Galaxy Golf in Campoamor.

We all played well and thoroughly enjoyed our day out.  A quick visit to the on-site supermarket afterwards provided some essential re-hydration!

Overall, we gave the course a rating of 8/10 and our performance a 7/10.

El Plantio Golf – April 2024

Located very close to Alicante’s El Altet Airport, El Plantio is surprisingly easy to miss.  Definitely use your sat nav!

The facilities are amazing with a huge clubhouse and restaurant, a par 3 course, footgolf and accommodation.  I had previously played foot golf here 10 years ago and loved it.

The course was in great condition but somehow lacked any real character or challenges.

We all played fairly well but unanamously agreed that it will not be a course we will be returning to any time soon.

Overall, we gave the course a rating of 7/10 and our performance a 6/10.

Saurines Golf – March 2024

Another trip to region of Murcia to face our biggest challenge so far!

Having left the Costa Blanca on a bright and sunny morning, we were ill equipped to deal with the freezing cold wind that was howling round the course.  Poor Mark arrived in shorts and was frozen by the 2nd hole.

The Nicklaus Design course has extensive grassy fairways set amongst the desert sands.  It was a great place to practice my bunker play as I hit 16 bunkers in 18 holes!

Overall, we gave the course a rating of 7/10 and our performance a 6/10.

Roda Golf – February 2024

Another trip across the border into the region of Murcia.  The location of Roda Golf is superb, just 1km from the beaches of Los Alcazares.

Despite the blustery conditions, we all fell in love with the course.  It offered a challenging mix of holes, all of which were immaculately presented.

It is an open course with a few properties close to the fairways, but not too close to be a distraction.

The clubhouse is huge and the staff were very friendly.

Overall, we gave the course a rating of 10/10 and our performance a 6/10.

Vistabella Golf – January 2024

Our first time as a four, we were joined by Steve, who is a regular golfer.  It was the first time I have played the course despite selling numerous properties in the area.

The course was immaculate and the weather was superb. 27C and clear blue skies made for a very enjoyable round.

The course is very forgiving and does not have any properties adjacent to the fairways.

The facilities are fairly basic but work has just started on a new clubhouse.

Overall, we gave the course a rating of 9/10 and our performance a 7/10.

Alicante Golf – December 2023

Tommy and I were joined by Mark for the first time.  Mark claims that he is not a golfer and is only playing for a bit of fun and exercise.  I’m not so sure as he can certainly hit a ball well!

Alicante Golf was a new course for us. Designed by the legendary Severiano Ballesteros, our hopes were high.  The couse has six par 3s, six par 4s and six par 5s.  The fairways were very narrow and included a surprise on the 14th hole.  100 yards from the green are the ruins of a Roman villa that was discovered during the construction of the course!  Luckily we all avoided the natural hazard!

The course was in great condition but felt a little hemmed in by the surrounding properties.

Overall, we gave the course a rating of 7/10 and our performance a 3/10.

El Valle Golf – November 2023

Just myself and Tommy were available in November due to various committments.  We ventured into the neighbouring region of Murcia to play El Valle Golf.  I had played the course several years before and had struggled with the desert style rough where your ball would just get eaten by the shrubs.

The course was in perfect condition and just as my previous visit, I got through a lot of balls!

The scenery is breathtaking and the course blends into the surrounding mountains and valleys in a such a natural way.

We both loved the course and finished all square after 18 holes.  We both showed small signs of improvement.  (When I say small, I do mean small!)

Overall, we gave the course a rating of 8/10 and our performance a 5/10.

Lo Romero Golf – October 2023

The first time any of us had tackled the beautiful Lo Romero golf course saw some mixed results. With water present on most of the 18 holes, we got through a surprising number of balls!  Having not played regularly for many years, inconsistency was the word of the day!  Some wayward drives, some shanked irons and some truly awful putting saw us all score badly.

We all liked the course and the makeshift clubhouse and vowed that we will return once we have improved our game.

Overall, we gave the course a rating of 7/10 and our performance a 2/10!
